Book details:
Let’s Talk About Love
by Claire Kann
Published by: Swoon Reads
Publication date: January 23rd 2018
Genres: Contemporary, Romance, Young Adult
Synopsis:

Alice had her whole summer planned. Non-stop all-you-can-eat buffets while marathoning her favorite TV shows (best friends totally included) with the smallest dash of adulting–working at the library to pay her share of the rent. The only thing missing from her perfect plan? Her girlfriend (who ended things when Alice confessed she’s asexual). Alice is done with dating–no thank you, do not pass go, stick a fork in her, done.

But then Alice meets Takumi and she can’t stop thinking about him or the rom com-grade romance feels she did not ask for (uncertainty, butterflies, and swoons, oh my!).

When her blissful summer takes an unexpected turn, and Takumi becomes her knight with a shiny library employee badge (close enough), Alice has to decide if she’s willing to risk their friendship for a love that might not be reciprocated—or understood.

REVIEW: I was super excited to learn that I had a place on the tour a few months back, I generally enjoy reading the books that Swoon Reads have published. The website is definitely one of my favourites, just to spend hours searching for stories to read that really captivate you. Let’s Talk About Love certainly did just that. Alice, the main character, identifies as biromantic asexual. She is in a relationship with a girl called Margot until she decides to break up with her which starts off the novel. Alice doesn’t have an easy relationship with her family and still hasn’t settled on which major to do at College. She also works in a library where she meets Takumi, a new employee and gets to know him. Having difficulties trying to decide what she really wants in her life, Alice goes to see a councillor as a way of putting her thoughts out to see if someone really understands her. I personally don’t identify myself as biromantic asexual, however, I loved the fact that Alice does open up to the reader about her asexuality. It was a quick read but contained so much that really kept me feeling very interested to see what happened next. The character development was one of the strongest that I’ve read so far in a book this year, being part of Alice’s journey showed progression and change from someone shy at the start to being more self-confident at the end. Friendship, sexuality and love, I would highly recommend Let’s Talk About Love to anyone wanting to read a realistic YA that discusses topics which young people (and adults) can relate to.
