Nearly The End of 2016. But This Is Sour.

It’s coming up now to one year since I started this blog, a place to type up about books I had read and reviewed and host blog tours. I feel that my blog is a huge part of my life but there have been a few things in recent weeks that I have brought me down quite a bit regarding my blog. After taking some time away to think whether or not to type up about it, I will and just letting you guys know my side of the story.

So one day, I came home from a day out with my parents and I decided to log onto my blog to check for messages and see if any new subscribers had popped up, I noticed after logging in that it read one message in your spam folder. Clicking on it, I kind of predicted that it was some random junk about selling carpets. But it wasn’t. It was a message to say that they had been reading my blog for sometime and to let me know that someone was copying my blog posts up onto a different blog. My happiness was crushed in an instant. Not really knowing what to do, I deleted the message but still spent an hour scouring around the internet trying to see who had been plagiarizing my blog and all of my posts. The search didn’t find anything but the message to be honest has haunted me.

Let me be honest by saying this, I’m currently hesitant to post any new posts on my blog in case my blog has been plagiarized by someone else. That blog tour post I did this week was pre-arranged and I couldn’t change that or withdraw from the tour. But considering this year has been extremely rough for me, I am disappointed that someone would go to great lengths to bring down my blog and make me look like a fool. I am not accusing anyone but if you readers do see a copy of my blog on the internet, do the right thing, let me know and I will fill out a takedown notice.

Aside from that, I am on track to reach 2,000 followers on my Goodreads which is insane as you guys know well about my excitement.

I’ve tried not to let this event dwell on me but unless I find some closure, I am very close to quitting blogging altogether and sticking to just my Goodreads account for reviewing books on.

AUTHOR BIO:
Madelle completed four novels before Ellora’s Cave Publishing Inc. contracted to publish her debut romantic suspense, Diamond Lust—republished as Diamond Hunter—and a sexy, short free read, The Next Big Thing, in 2010.

When Madelle realized her author voice is more suited to light, humorous contemporary romance, she went waaaay back to her teen years for the Hollywood in Muskoka series setting. Madelle, her sisters, and assorted pets enjoyed idyllic summers at a lake in the District of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of their top 20 Best of the World Must-see Places.

The Muskoka lakes’ forested shorelines are dotted with palatial properties owned by wealthy families and Hollywood celebrities. At sixteen, being neither rich nor famous, Madelle worked briefly as a chambermaid at the now-closed Delawana Inn, a local resort.

Madelle is retired from an engineering career in the federal public service and lives in Ottawa, Canada’s capital, with her husband. She tries to keep fit with cycling, Pilates, and yoga, and dreams of owning a waterfront cottage. Or at least a pool.

She tweets and posts on Facebook and Goodreads about Hollywood, filmmaking, Muskoka, and, of course, writing. She blogs the second Tuesday of the month at romancingthegenres.blogspot.com and occasionally on her own website.

Alice Presents: The Shelf Challenge.

image1

Hello everyone, Alice here with a mountain of books that she needs to read before the start of 2017 and reading moods changing constantly (sighs of frustration) so I’ve created some sort of motivating challenge to help me out. If you are new to my blog, my favourite reading genre is YA Contemporary so this is the first of my two organized shelves to house contemporary books. I would like to try and read the books on the shelf that I have witnessed sitting there gathering dust and review them. The books on this shelf that I have yet to read are:

My Heart and Other Black Holes

Tape

What Happened To Goodbye

Wonder

Dreamland

13 Little Blue Envelopes

Sunkissed

The Sky is Everywhere

The Year of the Rat

The One Dollar Horse

Twenty Boy Summer

The Spectacular Now

Zac and Mia

Unbecoming

Winter of Grace

Whisper to Me

Two Summers

Faceless

Waiting for Callback

Junk

Extraordinary Means

My Life With the Walter Boys

Along For The Ride

Easy

Kill The Boy Band

There are other books on the shelf but those are the ones read and reviewed and therefore won’t be re-read as part of this challenge. I also have plans to review all of the outstanding books on my Netgalley account by the end of December so that I can start afresh for 2017. Other books on my reviewing TBR (there’s hundreds both physical and digital) I’m sorting out plans for those to be announced in due course.

Let me know what your motivating tips are for reviewing books!

Shadow of a Girl
by Shannon Greenland
Published by: Entangled: Teen
Publication date: September 19th 2016
Genres: Romance, Young Adult
Synopsis:

Use cash and keep moving.

After I ran away from home, these were the two rules that dictated my life. Scoring a job as a roadie fit perfectly for what I needed. Traveling, cash, and life out of the spotlight.  But when my path collides with West, the lead singer of Bus Stop, I can’t seem to stay out of his spotlight—especially since we’ll be touring together for an entire year.

West is determined to break down my walls. He won’t give up. And little by little they come crumbling. But if he knew what lurked behind them, he wouldn’t be so eager to get rid of them.

The more time we spend together, the more the lines of our friendship become blurred. He makes me dream of things I never thought possible. But while our friendship has been evolving into a romance, my secrets have been closing in. And just when I’ve decided to reveal my past to West, I’m confronted by it. The cost of my freedom could ruin the life of the guy I love…

My Review:
Shadow of a Girl follows the story of a sixteen year old girl Eve who runs away from her abusive household in a bid to discover freedom. She changes her appearance and travels across the US to look for work and covering up the secrets of her past so that they don’t spoil her life whilst she is living on the road with roadies. Her world changes when she meets West, a hot and attractive frontman of the band Bus Stop. Both of them have secrets they’re keeping but one wrong move could spoil any chance of happiness for them both.
I like that the romance was well-developed and not an insta-love plot. I would say that the novel is suitable for teens but there are some scenes of abuse throughout the book that may be uncomfortable. As a lover of books that involve Romance and music together, reading this was just up my street. I enjoyed it immensely and will be reading more books by the author.

Approaching 2,000 Followers, The Crazy Reaction.

Just saying that out loud is crazy within itself to be honest, starting on just 40 followers on my Goodreads profile in March to just under 2,000 now in mid-November of the same year is huge. Every morning when I wake up, the first thing I do is grab my iPad and check any messages and notifications from Goodreads overnight. That’s how Goodreads itself has become such a huge part of my life. Rough days when I needed a break, I could just log on and stare at all of the pretty book covers and no-one would notice (apart from one of my closet friends) XD

But literally, in such a short amount of time, I’ve learnt something about myself that I wasn’t sure I knew about. I am a passionate lover of books, and people like it. I’ve had people say to my face that I’m boring because of the books but on a website like Goodreads, I’ve had the opportunity in just half a year to experience working with some great tour hosts to promote books and read ARCs for review. I am very much looking forward to 2017, deep down in my heart, I have the feeling that 2017 may be the year that my book reviewing really does reach some new heights.

I would like to thank all of my Goodreads followers as well as all of my blog readers for your continued support on this journey. I have a blog tour this coming Tuesday so I will be back then!

In the meantime, follow me on Goodreads at Marriedtobooks44: http://www.goodreads.com/Marriedtobooks44

Genres: Mystery, Romance, Young Adult

Synopsis:
Rory is your average high school senior. Or she was, until her mother banishes her to hell, also known as Trumbull, Connecticut. The small suburb with only a mall and movie theater, sure feels like the netherworld until Rory’s first day at her new school. That’s the day she meets Bowen, who begs her to join him on a class project. But when Bowen drags her to a graveyard after dark for research purposes, Rory wants to fly back home to Atlanta, or at least return to her aunt’s house unharmed and unmolested.

Nothing could go wrong, right? They talk, they laugh, and they wander among the tombstones looking for information on the local ghostly legend known as the White Lady. Then they have to run, but they cannot outrun a ghost. In addition to the ghostly woman, a half buried dead body leads Rory and Bowen into a deadly game of cat and mouse, but who is the killer? Is it human or something long dead and otherworldly?

The police are of little help, Rory’s aunt just wants her to remain safe, and Bowen, who she can’t stay away from, keeps finding ways to get her into more trouble than she has ever known. Whether breaking into a suspected killer’s house, being followed by a menacing ghost, or being stalked at school, Rory hopes finding the killer will put an end to the supernatural haunting. Before Rory can discover the identity of the killer, she is drawn into the mystery of the White Lady, which opens the door for some very real danger.

MY REVIEW:

A spooky read which is perfect for Halloween! The story follows Rory, a High School senior leaving behind her hometown of Atlanta for a creepy town in Connecticut to stay with aunt Nora while her mum is in Japan. On her first day at a new school, she meets a guy Bowen who will go on to have a big impact on her time in Connecticut. As part of a journalism assignment, both of the most work together to investigate the mystery of the supposed “White Lady” ghost that roams around the local graveyard. When both of them stumble onto a dead body, they are both caught up in a murder scene where a killer is at large. Both of them take the decision to track down the person responsible but when scary things start happening, their lives could be in grave danger. This is a YA paranormal story that I absolutely loved reading from start to finish. The suspense built up well with detailed settings, the romance did come on quite quickly but wasn’t predictable. I liked Bowen’s intelligence and enjoyed seeing Rory on quite an adventurous journey. Couldn’t fault the story at all, will be reading more books by this author.

If you love reading Nancy Drew, you will definitely love reading Wear White To Your Funeral!

MY REVIEW:
I had not read previously the other books in the Only One series but was intrigued by the thriller and the whole crime side of the plot. Adelia is bringing up her two young children as well as having romantic feelings for two men, her ex-husband and a close friend who joins the FBI. The novel takes place in the US and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Some of the scenes in the story are steamy however, the amount of thrills that I experienced particularly close to the end of the novel in a stand-off involving lives on the line made me want to keep on reading until the end. The relationships and hidden secrets between all of the main characters kept the action going with twists and turns hidden around every corner. The mystery of Adelia’s half sister Olivia created friction throughout. Overall, not quite the type of book I would normally pick up but could not fault the writing at all. 4/5 stars.
